Adam Mazur — NY Times

This project marks Adam Mazur’s first collaboration with The New York Times, illustrating a sports feature exploring how different Major League Baseball teams are using an AI system called the Automated Ball-Strike (ABS) Challenge System. The system analyzes pitch location with high precision to determine whether a pitch is a strike, with usage varying significantly across teams.

The illustration avoids conventional AI visual tropes such as robot umpires. Instead, it visualizes surveillance-style camera systems scanning and measuring the trajectory and position of the ball, reflecting the underlying mechanics of the technology in a more grounded way.
